Campfire Radio Theater – “Abominations”
A brand new episode of Campfire Radio Theater has arrived to give you a fright. Tonight’s play might be best appreciated with a stack of funnel cakes and elephant ears, preferably eaten in the dark, somewhere very quiet.
This production presented a unique and fun challenge for me as a composer: writing an original piece of carousel music. Thanks to creator John Ballentine for always providing me with entertaining challenges that push the sonic boundaries of the show.
The Story: Under the Midway
“A small town carnie with big ambitions is spooked and intrigued by the uncanny abilities of a mysterious old man living under the carnival fairgrounds.”
Jonah, a carnival worker looking for a quick buck, finds himself drawn into the orbit of an old man named Mack who lives beneath the rides. Mack claims to have a “gift,” the ability to fix things that are broken. But as Jonah soon discovers, the cost of such miracles is higher than he could ever imagine.
This is a tale of ambition, dark magic, and the horrors that hide behind the bright lights of the midway.
